Duncan Murray

Chair

Duncan Murray is the Chairman of the Amy’s Foundation and CEO of Besen Family Office. With over 20 years of executive management experience across logistics, construction, technology, media, and private equity sectors, Duncan brings strategic insight and governance expertise to the Foundation. His distinguished career includes roles as the inaugural Chair of AusCycling, Djarragun College, and Bama Services. Duncan also served as Group CEO of the Cape York Partnership and Cape York Institute, founded by Noel Pearson. Earlier in his career, he practiced as a lawyer and investment banker with leading firms including Allens, Centaurus, and Merrill Lynch. Duncan's extensive leadership experience significantly enhances the Foundation’s mission to improve road safety and foster mutual respect among all road users.

Katherine Bates

Managing Director

Katherine Bates is the Managing Director of the Amy’s Foundation, advocating for cyclist safety and mutual respect among road users. An Olympian and World Champion cyclist, Katherine's governance experience includes serving with Sport Australia, Bicycle NSW, and the Wollongong World Championships organising committee. Her professional background in tax accounting strengthens her roles on Finance, Audit, and Risk committees. Katherine co-authored the influential inquiry into the Treatment of Women and Girls in Swimming in Australia and provides expert commentary for major sporting events, including the Olympics and Tour de France, and co-hosts The Wheelhouse Cycling Podcast.

Michael Drapac

Director

Michael Drapac, Founder and Chairman of Drapac Capital Partners, is renowned for his leadership in sustainable property investment across Australia, Asia, and the United States. His pioneering commitment to sustainability earned national recognition and saw him become the first signatory to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI). Michael founded the Drapac Professional Cycling Team, which notably competed in three editions of the Tour de France and focused on athlete welfare and personal development. His dedication to the Amy’s Foundation’s mission is deeply personal, following the tragic loss of his son Damion in a road incident involving a car. Michael's holistic approach enriches the Foundation’s vision for safer roads.

Mark Textor

Director

Mark Textor is a renowned political strategist and communications expert, co-founder of the C|T Group consultancy, and a strategic advisor to eleven Prime Ministers worldwide. Beyond politics, Mark is deeply committed to impactful community campaigns addressing indigenous empowerment, health, safety, and homelessness. He currently chairs the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education, dedicated to reducing alcohol-related harm. As former Chair of the Amy’s Foundation, Mark successfully led the national advocacy campaign for minimum passing distance legislation. His expertise in strategic communications and policy advocacy substantially contributes to the Foundation's ongoing initiatives for road safety and respectful coexistence among road users.

Mary Safe

Director

Mary Safe is a dedicated advocate for cycling safety, driven by the tragic loss of her daughter, Amy Gillett, in 2005. Transitioning from primary teaching to advocacy, Mary developed influential presentations such as "Remembering Amy for a Reason," effectively blending personal storytelling with road safety education. She actively promotes practical initiatives like the Dutch Reach, educating drivers to protect cyclists. Mary's empathetic approach deeply resonates with communities, significantly enhancing the Foundation’s mission to create safer roads and foster respectful road-sharing practices.

Phil Anderson

Director

Phil Anderson is a respected figure in professional cycling and a committed board member of the Amy’s Foundation. As the first Australian to wear the Tour de France yellow jersey, Phil’s achievements significantly advanced Australian cycling internationally. Since retiring, he has been passionately advocating for cycling safety and supporting emerging riders. Phil’s extensive industry experience informs the Foundation’s strategic education and policy advocacy, enhancing community initiatives for safer, respectful interactions between cyclists and motorists.
